Bhuta Family Generations: Harilal & Ratilal

During the height of British colonial rule, Harilal Bhuta married Manjula Bhuta, whose family hailed from Mewasa, a village in Saurashtra under the influence of Bhavnagar State. Bhavnagar was ruled by Krishnakumar Singhji Gohil, a progressive ruler who maintained cordial relations with the British while promoting education and industrial growth in his state. Ratilal Bhuta, Harilal's father, married Tapiba from Kardaj, a village that was also under the dominion of Bhavnagar State. The Gohil rulers maintained a tight grip on this region, ensuring stability under British oversight.

Pilgrimage Centers:

• In this period, the Bhuta family traveled to Dwarka and Nashik, two of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites. Dwarka was a central hub of Krishna Bhakti, while Nashik, on the banks of the Godavari River, was known for its connection to the Ramayana. Under British colonial rule, these cities were maintained as cultural and religious centers, though the British East India Company exerted control over their administration.

Bhuta Family Generations: Karsandas, Rugnath, & Sundarji

Karsandas Bhuta married Uttamba from Sihor, an important town in Bhavnagar State, previously the ancient capital of the Gohil dynasty before Bhavnagar itself was founded. Sihor was a culturally significant town known for its historical temples and close connection to the Gohil rulers. At the time, Takhtsinhji Gohil, one of the most prominent kings of the Gohil dynasty, ruled Bhavnagar.

Rugnath Bhuta married Hariba from the same town of Sihor. The Bhuta family's marriage alliances with families from Sihor strengthened their connection to the Gohil rulers, allowing them to benefit from the political stability of Bhavnagar State.

Pilgrimage Centers:

• This period saw frequent pilgrimages by the Bhuta family to Dwarka and Prabha-Patan (near Somnath). Dwarka was historically ruled by the Jadeja Rajputs, who had strong connections to Lord Krishna. Prabha-Patan, home to the famous Somnath Temple, was under the influence of local Rajput rulers until the British integrated it into the Kathiawar Agency. Both cities became key religious centers under British colonial rule, with the administration focusing on maintaining the cultural integrity of these sites.

Bhuta Family Generations: Ravaji & Hiraji

During this period, Ravaji Bhuta married twice, first to Velba from Ghagha, a village historically under the Jadeja Rajputs of Jamnagar State. Jamnagar was a powerful Rajput kingdom that maintained autonomy under British oversight during this era. His second wife, Manekaba AKA Motiba, was from Mahuva, which was part of Bhavnagar State, ruled by the Gohil dynasty. Marrying into both Jamnagar and Bhavnagar states expanded the Bhuta family's influence in different parts of Kathiyawad.

Hiraji Bhuta married Naniba from Amreli, which was a part of Junagadh State, ruled by the Babi dynasty. This marriage aligned the Bhutas with another major princely state in Kathiyawad, further cementing their social and political standing.

Pilgrimage Centers:

• During this time, Ravaji Bhuta made several pilgrimages to Nashik and Dwarka. Nashik was under the Maratha Empire until the British East India Company gained control in the early 19th century. Dwarka, meanwhile, was a significant pilgrimage site under the control of the Jadeja Rajputs of Jamnagar State, who remained allies of the British.

Bhuta Family Generations: Laxmidas, Sanghaji, & Mehraj

In the early modern period, Laxmidas Bhuta married Arshadba from Mahuva, which was becoming an important coastal town under the control of local Rajput chieftains before Bhavnagar's rise. His second wife, Harba, came from Amreli, part of the Junagadh State, which was under the influence of the Babi dynasty.

Sanghaji Bhuta married Sangde from Mahuva as well, cementing the Bhuta family's longstanding relationship with the coastal town and its strategic importance in trade and commerce.

Pilgrimage Centers:

• During this time, the Bhuta family maintained pilgrimages to Dwarka and Somnath. Dwarka was under the rule of local Rajput chieftains who maintained the temples and cultural heritage of the region. Somnath, revered for its grand temple, had been repeatedly attacked but rebuilt over time, remaining a symbol of resilience in the Hindu faith.
• Both cities were important spiritual centers that fell under the loose dominion of the Mughal Empire and their allied Rajput rulers in Saurashtra. However, religious autonomy remained intact, and the pilgrimage traditions continued without interference from imperial powers.

Over the centuries, the Bhuta family formed strategic marital alliances across the Kathiyawad region, marrying into families from significant villages like Amreli, Mahuva, Sihor, and Damnagar. These marriages not only strengthened the family's social standing but also connected them to the ruling dynasties of the time, including the Gohil dynasty of Bhavnagar, the Babi dynasty of Junagadh, and the Jadeja Rajputs of Jamnagar.

Their pilgrimages to Dwarka, Nashik, and Somnath reflected their deep spiritual commitment, linking them to centuries-old religious traditions. The Bhuta family's connection to both local rulers and sacred sites is a testament to their resilience and adaptability in a rapidly changing world, grounded in their unwavering devotion to faith and family.
